Eames, Eames, Everywhere!

Being a distributor of Eames reproductions, we see Eames products all day everyday. You would think we would be sick of it – but we’re not! We love seeing interesting articles and photos which feature Eames products in a unique vision. If you scroll down, you will see some really cool photos we found on ApartmentTherapy.com

Hmm how much does an Eames painting cost? We know the costs for the chairs – is it cheaper to have the painting or the actual chair? Haha.

WOW! Talk about dedication and love for design. The tattoo is definitely the more economical route versus purchasing the actual chair – but you really have to want this chair forever in order to get it tattooed to your arm!

This photo was by far the most controversial and possibly the most unattractive. At first glance, we did not have an interest in displaying this photo but after researching the meaning behind it we thought we’d give it a shot. Apparently the artist behind this idea was trying to bring awareness to the obesity issue in the United States. Some were offended saying that the photo mocked obesity. We would like to believe the former and think that the artist was working to bring light to a serious issue. Either way, it’s Eames and we want to hear YOUR thoughts on this!

Let’s Talk Islands…

During the long winter months we seem to always let our minds drift off to something tropical. We think of the beach, white sand, warm sun, blue water… Many of us plan vacations to escape the warm weather. No matter what the case, if you are against winter weather you are always imagining yourself on a tropical island.

Well we can keep dreaming, there will be no island get-a-ways for us. For those of you who are in the same boat with us (no pun intended) we can bring you a different kind of island A kitchen island!

We found some of the most beautiful kitchen designs this morning at Freshome.com and are happy to share them with you.

These islands don’t come with palm trees, ocean views, or sea shells but they sure are equally eye-catching. Notice how each island is paired with fabulous modern pieces. The Lem Piston Bar stool is by far our favorite island piece and it just so happens to be one of our top sellers!

A Man Cave to Ease a Break-Up

Kris Humphries has something most men only dream of… No, we don’t mean Kim Kardashian – we mean his new man cave. After the recent split between Kim and Kris, Kris wasted no time getting back into the bachelor lifestyle. Instead of partaking in the traditional post break-up depression, Kris had the DIY Network travel out to Minnesota to design a man cave.

The cave is complete with a 120 inch TV, bars, exquisite furniture, and so much more. Truly a high-end sanctuary if we can say so ourselves. How do we know all of this? WE helped furnish it! That’s correct, ManhattanHomeDesign.com was hand selected by the DIY Network to partner for this project.

Based on our amazing reputation, high-quality furniture, and successful projects around NYC; it is no surprise that we were chosen to provide our furniture for the great Kris Humphries.

Holidays and Parties

We have grown accustom to associating the holiday season with an endless calendar full of parties. We’ve done some research and have determined that these seem to be the following reasons for our heavy calendars…

1) Your co-worker has graciously volunteered everyone into a secret Santa drawing
2) Your boss has politely required everyone to attend the company party
3) Your neighbor is throwing a party and everyone in your building is going
4) Your friend has sworn you to the +1 duty for all of their parties
5) Your extended family can’t decide who wants to host the party so everyone has their own, and you must go to each of them.

The list could go on forever! Either way, we know December 1st is opening day for a race to the new year.

In most cases, we usually find ourselves as the guest at all of these parties. We get ready, grab gifts, and venture out to each persons party where we kick back, relax, and socialize. However, there is usually another version to these stories and it generally comes from the host of the party.

Oh yeah, the host! For those lucky individuals, their calendars look something like this…

cleaning, shopping, decorating, cleaning, cooking, shopping, planning, thinking, entertaining, and then more cleaning. It’s really a vicious cycle.

If you happen to be living in the ever-so-popular small apartments in NYC, you will find that the idea of hosting a holiday party could be in the form of a nightmare. Carpet Creations

While we were browsing through blogs this morning we came across a new interior product that might just be one of our favorite finds yet! If you are into modern design and have a deep appreciation for nature, you will LOVE these new carpets.

The picture below makes an amazing imitation of logs and tree trunks. This piece would be ideal for a cabin tucked away in the woods! This designer makes great compliments to the carpet by adding the appropriate decorations and throwing in a sleek modern chair.

This picture below is our favorite! We love how the carpet provides such a distinct resemblance to wooden flooring. This is a great idea for anyone who loves the appearance of wooden floors yet prefers carpet in their home. Just imagine – you will never have to polish your floors or worry about damaging them. Simply vacuum when necessary and you are all set to go!

We think that this final carpet would be fabulous for any home by the water! The imitation of pebbles and stones creates a great sense of being outside and walking along the water. This is a great way to bring that same feeling inside!

We love it when designers come up with fresh ideas like these which compliment a variety of homes. By designing a carpet for basically any lifestyle, the product becomes a success because it can be appreciated by so many different personalities.

Again, when using carpets that are so full of life it’s always good to offset the design by using modern furniture in the room. You don’t want the room to be too loud, you want to keep the furniture sleek and simple so that you can appreciate the creative carpets while still keeping a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

Things Are Getting Really Modern Around Here…

Do you remember a time when overly creative people were looked at as weirdos? Today, creativity is embraced and extremely sought after. Some of the most successful designers and artists are recognized for some of the most unthinkable ideas.

Was there ever a moment when you thought to yourself “I think Barbie would appreciate an Arco Lamp and wooden flooring”. Probably not… but sure enough, here it is! Barbie has her own modern house which is complete with designer furniture and eco friendly materials.

Also, check out this bon fire. Come on now, a neatly designed bon fire? Very interesting idea! The last bon fire I attended was sticks and stones thrown together in a metal trashcan in my back yard (not the most attractive bon fire of course but it got the job done). If I had this trendy set up, I would throw a party every night!

This picture really got me! A slanted fish bowl?! So creative and extremely eye-catching. This is sure to get the attention of anyone in the room. We like it, but I wonder how the fish feels haha.

Last but not least, we have an extremely modern lamp. The bulb is the focus of the design – no lamp shade necessary! This would definitely brighten any room. Something as simple as this would surely give a great compliment to any room that needs an extra touch of creativity!

High End Furniture and Soo Much More…

As most of you know (hopefully), ManhattanHomeDesign.com teamed up with Artichoke Cafe to host an event through Google’s Pink Pin Initiative. The idea for this event came over night and grew to be the biggest event for the 2011 Pink Pin Initiative. Did we mention we planned this event in one week? Well we did! Monday – the idea was born, Tuesday – Artichoke Cafe accepted our proposal and teamed up with us, Wednesday – we went to Google offices to give our proposal and earn their approval and support, Thursday – we picked Sky Room as our venue, designed our invite and started spreading the word, Friday – we sent out a million (literally) press releases and the event was on it’s way!

By the time the event came around the following Wednesday we were like little kids. The excitement was not containable. When we made our rounds in the building to invite our neighbors, many asked “Are you event planners”? Hmm no, but I guess we can add that skill to the resume.

After having only one week to plan the event we were definitely nervous about what the outcome would be. Fortunately, it was better than any of us could have imagined.

Walk down the red carpet to Sky Room’s entrance, take an elevator up 33 floors, enter a beautiful lounge where you are greeted with delicious food from Artichoke Cafe and spectacular drinks from the bar…

Walk up one more flight and enter the roof top lounge, Manhattan’s highest roof top bar! Enter a room of guests who are sipping champagne and listening to great music by DJ Santa, find a comfortable seat on white couches or step outside to the patio where you can take in the most stunning views of the city…

Are we making you jealous yet?

It gets better! As the evening comes to a close, guests come together to make a $10 text donation to the Pink Pin Initiative and then enjoy a complimentary champagne toast. On the way out, guests grab awesome gift bags from Google!

I think it’s safe to say we met our goals and exceeded our expectations!

Big Ideas for Small Spaces

Living in New York City can be extremely cozy. When we say cozy, we mean very limited space! The average New York City apartment is approximately 450-550 square feet. For most, a living space of this size can be very challenging – especially if you are moving from a city where you are used to much larger spaces.

It’s always good to get creative with small spaces and make use of products and furniture that best suits your needs. Take a look at these cool shelves! Look at how easy it is to turn useless wall space into significant storage for household items.

The possibilities with these types of products are endless!

If you want to get really creative, you could use a wall unit like this to add some color. Not only are you making excellent use of your space but you’re decorating as well.

This is one of our favorite ideas! Turn your space into a duplex by adding an over head frame to create a bedroom that is separate from your living area. This is a great idea for a studio or an apartment with a loft. Don’t let that extra space go to waste, use your creativity to add a separate living area.

Another GREAT use of an empty corner. At first you might see this as a space that is too hard to decorate, but we see a private office area. Simply mount a shelving unit against the back wall, plug in your computer, grab a chair and you’re all set!

Creative finds like these are crucial to making the most of your living space. When square footage is tight, make good use of your wall space. Fine some great pieces that suit your needs and add decoration to your space!
